Product details
8 Nov | Fotografiska joins forces with Filmklubben for a screening of This Is England that deepens the conversation around masculinity, identity and belonging in connection with the exhibition Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Are Men OK?.
Throughout the autumn, Fotografiska presents three films together with Jonas Pedersen Hardebrant’s Filmklubben, inviting audiences to explore masculinity through a cinematic lens. This time, we present Shane Meadows’ 2006 British drama This Is England – a semi-autobiographical story about community, alienation and the search for identity.
Set in Britain in 1983, the film follows 12-year-old Shaun as he drifts through the summer holidays and befriends Woody, who welcomes him into a local skinhead group. Shaun finds friendship, style and music – but when the group fractures between tolerance and xenophobia, he is forced to choose a side. This Is England explores how vulnerability, belonging and ideas of masculinity can be harnessed to create both community and division.
The film was written and directed by Shane Meadows.
