ABOUT THE COURSE

Do you want to give photography a bigger place in your life? Welcome to My Photographic Life — an exclusive year-long course at Fotografiska, led by the award-winning photography teacher Göran Segeholm. The course is designed for those who want to develop their visual language and deepen their understanding of image analysis, photography, and visual communication.

My Photographic Life is an evolution of the popular course My Photographic Year, which has been held fifteen times at Fotografiska since 2012. Here, you will deepen your knowledge through both proven and new course elements, all designed to provide an inspiring and enriching learning experience.

The course consists of twelve sessions during 2026–2027. Sessions are always held on Saturdays, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Lunch and refreshments are included in the course fee.

CONTENT

The course gives you the opportunity to deepen your understanding of photography through practical exercises and theoretical insights. Throughout the year, you will work with:

• Visual language and image analysis: Learn how to interpret and analyze photographic images on a deeper level.

• Visual communication: Explore the relationship between image and text, and the impact of photo series and sequencing.

• Photography and image selection: Gain tools for creating strong visual narratives.

• Guest lecturers: On three occasions, you will meet invited experts in photography and visual art.

Throughout the year, Göran will collaborate with the group to create a unique documentation of the course year, partly illustrated with the participants’ own images. Before the final session, the book will be digitally printed, with one copy provided to each participant.

Between sessions, you will receive a variety of assignments, both theoretical and practical. Communication between sessions takes place directly with Göran via email or Slack.

ABOUT GÖRAN SEGEHOLM

Göran Segeholm is one of Sweden’s most experienced and appreciated photography teachers, with more than 20 years of experience in photography and visual communication. With several books and podcasts to his name, he is a highly regarded educator and inspirational speaker. Göran has previously taught courses at Jönköping University and hosted the podcast Bildradion.
