World Photography Day: Photojournalism in an Age of AI and Fake News
August 19 | Alexander Mahmoud on the image as human testimony.
Overview
On World Photography Day, we invite you to an evening dedicated to championing photojournalism — a craft that, in an era of AI, information overload, and fake news, may be more important than ever.
Award-winning photojournalist Alexander Mahmoud joins us at Fotografiska to share insights into his work and life behind the camera. Through his own reportage and a rich selection of images, he takes us into the stories shaping our world today — and the ethical, human, and journalistic decisions behind every photograph.
Alexander describes the daily newspaper as “the most human thing we have.” During the evening, we will reflect on the role of photojournalism in democracy, why it remains essential, and the future of the profession in the face of AI-generated imagery and disinformation.
The evening begins with a lecture and image presentation, followed by an in-depth Q&A discussion on the future of photojournalism. The conversation will be moderated by Harald Tydén and will give the audience an opportunity to ask questions and take part in the discussion.
An evening for everyone who believes in the power of images — and in journalism as a human testimony in a changing world.
