Parental Leave-Course

1 Oct | Photography Course for Parents on Parental Leave

Duration: 90 mins
Offered languages: Svenska

Overview

Are you at home with a little one and want to get inspired in everyday photography together with other parents on leave? This course is for you. Over three mornings, we’ll meet at Fotografiska with our little ones and learn from Jenny Hammar how to portray everyday life in storytelling images. We’ll focus on light, technique, and editing, and on capturing life just as it is.

The parenting course is organized in collaboration with the photo book company Once Upon, who believe that even the simplest moments can hold the most unexpected meaning and are here to help you keep those moments close, forever.

About the course

This course is for those who want to keep a photographic diary for themselves and their family—not to get model-perfect pictures of their children.

We focus on important, storytelling, and meaningful images, and learn basic techniques to better control the results. You’ll receive assignments to work on, and we’ll be inspired by each other and our children.

Use any camera you like – DSLR, compact camera, or mobile phone. No prior knowledge is required.

All participants receive a gift card from Once Upon worth 2200 SEK to start creating their own photo books.

Bring your little one and enjoy community, inspiration, and fika at Fotografiska!

Here’s what you can expect:

Session 1: Subject and Perspective

We’ll start with a playful and practical session. How do we photograph with variation: up close, from the ground, from above, or with something else entirely in the foreground? And what should we keep in mind so that not every photo on the camera roll looks the same?

Session 2: Light and Relationships

Here we’ll talk about how to work with light—natural light, lamps, etc. How does a photographer think? And how (and why) do we act like a “fly on the wall” when photographing our loved ones—filtering out the staged and instead telling the story of life as it really is?

Session 3: Technique and Editing

How we can use the camera or phone to our advantage, and how editing can strengthen an image—for example, by making photos black and white. We’ll tie it all together and also talk about how to care for the treasure of images we create!

How should you prepare?

Bring something that can take pictures—a phone or a camera. Everything we talk about applies across these differences.

*No prior knowledge required! All questions, big or small, are always welcome.
